    Vodafone and Dropbox Team up on Cloud Storage

    Vodafone and Dropbox are partnering to provide the telco’s Android and iPhone users with free cloud storage for a year.

    Starting this month, new Vodafone users will have 25 GB of cloud storage space on Dropbox. This service will be available to Vodafone’s Android and iPhone users. A majority of Vodafone’s Android phones will come preloaded with the Dropbbox app.

    What’s the implication? Well, Vodafone users can now count on extra space that can also make switching over to a new phone a much easier process as all you have to do is save all your videos, photos, and all your files on your old phone to Dropbox and then just sign in to your Dropbox app in your new phone and all your files will be there waiting for you.

    Vodafone also said that it will use Dropbox as its platform for its Backup+ service that allows Vodafone users to backup messages, multimedia content, and contacts on the cloud. The Backup+ service will start rolling out by the end of March, 2015 and will be ready for use over the coming months.

    The partnership between Dropbox and Vodafone is not entirely a new concept as just last year around October 02 entered a partnership with Box to resell the cloud storage service to SMEs.

    All you require to do is to go to the contact list and call the email address of any person with whichever netTalk application including DUO II, DUO, and DUO Wi-Fi for free.

    The Android and iOS also offers significantly discounted landlines and mobiles calls with 30% – 40%  less on international calling to landlines and mobiles across the world. Payments are flexible as you can charge it to your cellular phone bill or pay through Google Wallet.

    Once you have installed netTALK you are given free Canadian and US phone numbers with free unlimited incoming calls from family and friends. Both iOS and the Android apps are completely redesigned and optimized to operate on both android tablets and phones, and on iPads and iPhones.

    They offer “clearer reception, more stability,” and new bonus features such as free international FM radio broadcasts. With the application, you will also be able to enjoy a conference call bridge with unrestricted participants for free.

  • MWC 2014: Nokia Doesn't Put All Eggs in One Basket – Android Handheld Launched


    Nokia astonished the mobile world (well, more or less since news of this had already been leaked) with its Nokia X1, an Android phone that makes Nokia probably the first mobile manufacturer to have 3 operating systems under control. X1 is a relatively heavy UI change on Android, but as a phone it felt relatively vulgar, indistinguishable from any other Android phone. Below you'll see a few pictures and a video.

    We also took some time to check the Nokia Asha, its low end mobile for kind-of developing markets, using the S40 operating system. It's not a full-fledged "smartphone," but it looks like a decent device. See a short video below:

    Finally, we played for a few minutes with a Nokia Windows tablet. The Metro UI actually looks very good in high definition screens, as you can see below. 

  • Mobile World Congress 2014: Jolla and Sailfish OS Bring a Breath of Fresh Air


    We've had the pleasure of checking out the fresh-from-the-oven Sailfish OS 1.0, living inside the new Jolla handset. Sailfish is a new mobile operating system, cross-compatible with Android (so you'll be getting Angry Birds, don't worry.) Sailfish feels snappy and fast, and its swipe around menu system is surprisingly smooth. You can see a few pictures and a video below.

    Sailfish for Android will be available "very soon," so you'll be able to install it on your own Android device. We've seen it live on several Samsung and HTC devices, and it works very, very well. Sailfish 1.0 will still be "beta" for Android, and probably require around 1GB RAM on your device (likely to go down in the future.)


    At the Jolla booth at the Mobile World Congress they were also giving away Angry Birds soda. Angry Birds branded Jolla phone is said to be available before summer. 

  • mSpy: A Terrifying Smartphone And Tablet Spying App


    If you are keen in preserving your privacy, then you should definitely be weary of the mSpy app. When installed on an iOS or Android device, the app can track phone records, keyboard strokes and location data in the background without your knowledge.

    It is specially designed for legal monitoring use, and there are legitimate reasons for installing it if you intend to use it for legal matters. For instance, companies can use the app for monitoring company phones for security purposes. Parents can also use the app for monitoring the usage of devices that they give their children.

    The app dances around the issue of legal surveillance and has a disclaimer stating that it is intended for use by companies or parents who own or have legal consent for monitoring. The disclaimer further indicates that the users of such devices should be notified that they are under surveillance.

    However, on mSpy’s website, you can also see that it is indicated as a bugging tool for gathering evidence from a phone. It further ominously refers the tapped phone as the target and states that the app is 100% undetectable. However, this information is not necessary if users are informed that they are being monitored.

  • Use WiFi VoIP Through Your Cell Phone with CSipSimple Android App

    It is possible to use your cell phone as a VoIP phone through various apps. CSipSimple is an Android based app that enables cell phones to handle VoIP calls. Whenever a VoIP call is made, an answering screen comes in that is distinguishable from the normal calls. The dialer for VIP calls is also different from the normal calls.

    The setup process is simple and straight forward. It is recommended that you use the basic setup and configure the device to only be available on the WIFI network. This means that the device automatically picks the local network whenever it becomes available. Whenever you are in an area without WIFI, all calls go to voice mail. This ensures that you are not disturbed by office calls while you are at home.

    On an iPhone, you may use Zoiper, which has equally good functionality. The app is also available on android in case you need to standardize the software on different applications. The applications provide you with a convenient and unique opportunity to with workmates within the office network.

  • New Roamer App Reduces Call Roaming Bills Abroad up to 90%


    The phone bill can shoot up to a hefty amount when you are travelling abroad due to steep call roaming charges. However, there is now an app that lightens this financial load for iOS and Android mobile device users. Roamer is a new app for iOS and Android that saves users call forwarding bills abroad by up to 90%.

    Roamer allows call forwarding so you can receive and make calls with the app anywhere in the world. The app simply forwards a user's regular number to a local SIM card at their destination. Once at the destination, the user can be able to call their home country or elsewhere abroad using their regular caller ID. As for local calls, the local SIM suffices.

    Using local cellular networks means the Roamer app-based calls are high quality. You have to pay native rates, though, to make calls.

    The app is available on the App Store and Google Play as a free download. Roaming credits are available in packages of $13, $16, $39, and $65. The company has promised to release BlackBerry and Windows Phone versions soon.

    If you've been missing out on Verizon's FiOS Mobile service for your Android, you can now experience it, just like the iOS users have been doing for a few months. This application can now be accessed on a variety of different Android smartphones and tablets, giving users the ability to finally enjoy watching live TV and On Demand on their devices.

    Through this application, users can watch their favorite TV shows, as some channels are available for live streaming. Whether you own a smartphone or tablet, you can have 24 hour access to all of the On Demand content. Though Internet Only users will be unable to access the TV and Video on Demand features, those who have a cable package will. No more being stuck away from your TV and missing out.

    Google Play has the application available right now. For those Android users who have been unable to access this application for months, it is a welcome addition to all of the options that Verizon already offers its customers.

  • Jolla Sailfish Phone: Make Way for the Quirkiest Smartphone to Date


    A solid band of engineers decided to leave Nokia in 2012 and went on their way to developing a Meego-derived operating system dubbed as “Sailfish”. The development process was quite successful and this led the band of engineers to their next problem: they needed a new vehicle to host the software. The answer now comes in the form of the newest and the first Jolla phone that is known to be as “quirky” as the OS that it operates on.

    In addition to its dual-core processor, a 4.5-inch display screen, 4G capabilities, an 8-megapixel camera, a microSB slot, and 16GB of onboard storage, the most striking feature of this new phone is its contrasting removable back cover. Believe it or not, this new Jolla phone has the capacity to detect which back cover is attached to it and automatically change its display theme to match the cover that it detects. In addition to that, the covers currently available for this new smartphone comes in slightly different forms, giving users a unique smartphone every time they change back covers. The new Jolla phone is a shape shifter that will surely fit consumers’ shifting tastes.

    Despite the fact that it runs on its own Sailfish OS, developers at Jolla maintain that the newest and the first Jolla phone will be “Android-compliant”. Since the phone is based on an OS that was based on Meego, an OS that initially powered the Nokia N9, skeptics are worried about this claim. The main concern that people have about the phone’s Android compatibility is the selection of applications that will be available for the Jolla phone and the means through which users will be able to download them. Other than that, consumers are excited to see how the best and the most popular Android apps will be made to fit this new Android-compliant Jolla phone.

    The first Jolla phone made its debut on selected European countries and is set to roll out in the rest of the world in the months to come. Set to cost consumers around $500 dollars for a single unit, it falls just within the reasonably priced smartphone category, especially when its unique features are considered. Looks like the quirky public finally got the quirky smartphone that it has been looking for.
